Andrej Gmorvsek climbing Lufoo Lam on Castle Peak in India's Miyar Valley, from his report in the 2008 AAJ. Tanja Gmorvsek
In preparation for a feature article on India’s Miyar Valley (to be published in the 2010 AAJ), we are compiling all the historical reporting from past AAJs and placing them in the Miyar Valley section of the AAJ Online (recent years are still incomplete).
We’re also reaching out to climbers who’ve been there and who might be willing to help tell us, a) which routes are missing, b) the names of peaks, and c) make Google Earth placemarks for these peaks. Please let us know if you’d like to participate. And thanks from Lindsay and John!

BASE CAMP AT UDAIPUR FOR MIYAR TREKKING
I was here in 1985. Our team climbed three peaks (first ascents) around the head of the Miyar Nala glacier from a base camp under Pt 6141. Pt 6150 and Pt 6036 were both climbed, as was a rocky peak overlooking the Kangla Jot.
I believe Roberto Iannilli did some great stuff in Miyar. I’ll forward him this webpage…
I took part to 2 italian expeditions led by Massimo Marcheggiani in Miyar Valley in 1996 and 2005. I wrote the reports published by AAJ in 1997 and 2006.
I’ll be glad to help.
I sent a note to the Himalayan Journal regarding exploration of the Miyar Nala peaks in the 1980s (HJ vol 63, 2007, page 312). The HJ and AJ had published articles by Jim Lowther & Graham Little that had ignored this activity and made completely incorrect claims regarding its climbing history.
I was in Miyar Valley in 2008 (hi alex !) with an Italian team and I sent our report and photos to Lindsay Griffin in the last year. In any case you’ve my email for possible further info.
I was in Miyar Nala in 2004 and explored the area extensively, making three first ascents and the first penetration of Jangpar Glacier.
I was in the walley in 2008 and climbed Mahindra by the wall with Muryshev and Korol in Russian team . If you have some questions I’m open to help.
